Abstract
Karl Barth was one of the most influential theologians of the twentieth century. His profound and original thought contributed significantly to shaping theological discussions of his time. Although a century has passed since his birth, his ideas remain a primary reference and continue to invite interaction among theologians. Given Barth's influence on theological discourse to the present day, this study aims to explore and analyze his thought, focusing primarily on the biblical doctrine he formulated. Does Barth accept that the Bible is the word of God in the sense of being identical with the word of God, or is the Bible not identical with the word of God? What are Barth's views on the inspiration, inerrancy, and authority of the Bible? Do Barth's views contradict orthodox biblical doctrine? Using descriptive research methods and a literature study approach, this study will examine Barth's views in depth and critically review them from a Reformed theological perspective. The analysis reveals that Barth's biblical doctrine—specifically the Bible as the word of God, its inspiration, inerrancy, and authority—contradicts the main principles of biblical doctrine according to Reformed theology. For Barth, the Bible is a testimony to God's word and is not identical with God's word. While he did not reject the concept of biblical inspiration, his understanding of inspiration differed fundamentally from the Reformed perspective. Barth rejected the inerrancy of the Bible, a belief of Reformed theology, because he considered the Bible to be fallible. While Barth and Reformed theology both recognized the authority of the Bible, there were significant differences in how they understood this aspect. (Translated by Google Translator)
